Viidennen Progress for Children -raportin mukaan likainen vesi, huono hygienia ja puutteellinen sanitaatio johtavat joka vuosi yli 1,5 miljoonan alle 5-vuotiaan kuolemaan. Maailmassa on 425 miljoonaa lasta, joilla ei ole käytössään puhdasta vettä ja 980 miljoonalta puuttuu alkeellisinkin sanitaatio, kuten käymälät.

The theme of Meena Day this year was: Chhele Meye bibhed nai, jonmo nibondhon shobar chai meaning 'Birth registration for all, be it a boy or girl' - to draw attention to the priority the Government of Bangladesh has attached to Universal Birth Registration by 2008.

Intialainen aktivisti epäilee, etteivät intialaiset viranomaiset voi estää miljoonien lasten katoamisia ympäri maata. Hän pelkää, että kadonneet lapset ajetaan kerjuulle tai pakkotyöhön. Suomen World Vision julkisti toukokuussa 2006 kummeille suunnatun kirjoituskilpailun aiheesta ”Anna vähän – saat paljon”. Tarkoituksena oli kerätä kokemuksia ja mielipiteitä World Vision –kummiudesta ja esimerkiksi siitä, miten kummius on muuttanut omaa maailmankuvaa tai herättänyt keskustelua perheessä ja työpaikalla. Kirjoituskilpailun voitti outokumpulainen Liisa Koponen, ugandalaisen Cecilian kummi.

Kymmenen suomalaista kansalaisjärjestöä luovutti perjantaina 22. syyskuuta oikeusministeri Leena Luhtaselle kannanoton, jossa ilmaisevat huolensa siitä, että Alankomaissa on sallittu rekisteröidä puolue, jonka pyrkimyksenä on purkaa lapsen keskeistä ihmisoikeussuojaa. Kannanoton ovat allekirjoittaneet lapsikeskeistä kehitysyhteistyötä, kummilapsitoimintaa ja perhe- ja nuorisotyötä tekevät sekä lasten, naisten ja perheiden hyvinvointia ja oikeuksia ajavat järjestöt.

For children with learning disabilities in Mumbai, school life has just become a little easier with Maharashtra issuing a government resolution spelling out concessions for students with dyslexia (reading disability), dysgraphia (writing disability), dyscalculia (disability in carrying out mathematical calculations) and dysnomia (dictation disability).

The Indian government has failed in its constitutional duty to protect children say CSOs. Ahead of the Eleventh Five-Year Plan period (2007-2012), they urge the Planning Commission to focus on issues of abuse and exploitation and allocate funds to ensure mechanisms for child protection.

The World Development Report, relesed at the World Bank's annual meeting in Singapore, says there is an urgent need to invest in the youth in the developing world. It says countries which invest in better education, healthcare, and job training for their record numbers of young people between the ages of 12 and 24 years of age, could produce surging economic growth and sharply reduced poverty.
