31.07.2007 UNESCO handed over 82 pieces of equipment, granted under a US$2.5 million project, funded by Italy, to create a new TV studio aimed at developing educational broadcasting in Afghanistan. The project started in 2003, and helped the Ministry of Education to achieve its goal of providing education to Afghans in all parts of the country.

31.07.2007 Indian state Gujarat, which lies on the west coast, is celebrating a successful school enrollment drive that started five years ago to ensure all children, especially girls, are enrolled in schools. Through community mobilisation in 18,000 Gujarat villages the initiative has met with sizeable success.

26.07.2007 Coopi ha iniziato in Etiopia un programma a favore di 2.000 bambini e adolescenti in condizioni di vulnerabilità, nei quartieri poveri di Addis Abeba, dove alta è la percentuale di abusi sui minori. Molti di questi bambini inoltre, sono beneficiari di un progetto di adozione a distanza attivato nei quartieri più poveri di Addis Abeba. Finanziato dal Ministero degli Affari Esteri italiano, il progetto è partito nel 2005 e ha previsto un'azione di sensibilizzazione e potenziamento delle istituzioni etiopi in tema di tutela dei minori, condotta a livello federale dalla Cooperazione Italiana. A livello comunitario invece, rispettivamente nell'area di Merkato di Addis Abeba (Coopi) e nella regione di Oromia (Cisp), Coopi e Cisp si sono occupati di rafforzare la consapevolezza dei diritti dei bambini attraverso campagne e corsi di formazione per insegnanti e capi famiglia e il supporto alla creazione di centri per bambini.

17.07.2007 The BBC World Service Trust's Afghan education project (AEP) has won a Bronze World Medal for its children’s radio programme, The Ruined Castle. The prize was awarded at the International Radio Broadcasting Awards, which is part of the New York Festivals.

16.07.2007 Vision Ed’s Stonington Retreat in New York City will host a four-day intensive workshop on how best to integrate creative technology into classrooms. The retreat will help teachers, parents and administrators to start or continue a technology program at their schools or organizations. The retreat will take place from July 31st – August 3rd, 2007 at NYU’s Kimmel Center.

12.07.2007 UNICEF’s voting campaign on clean water programme is among the top 50 finalists in The Members Project. American Express is donating US$1 for every card holder who registers, with a cash prize up to US$5 million to the winning idea. Voting ends July 15.

09.07.2007 La Giornata dell'Orgoglio pedofilo ('Boy Love Day') del 23 giugno scorso ha sollevato, come era preventivabile e auspicabile, moltissime proteste e numerose associazioni a difesa dei minori sono intervenute per impedirla e per ricordare le forme di violenza che colpiscono i minori: dal traffico di bambini, alla prostituzione, alla pornografia rappresentante bambini, ma anche le forme di violenza ‘privata' consumate spesso all'interno delle mura domestiche. Per l'occasione l'associazione Ecpat Italia ha invitato a non dimenticare il turismo sessuale pedofilo, soprattutto verso il Sud est asiatico che coinvolge almeno 80.000 italiani. "Solo nel 3 per cento dei casi si tratta di pedofili, mentre la maggioranza è composta da uomini che solo quando si presenta l'occasione abusano di bambini". Ecpat-Italia collabora con le agenzie di viaggio e tour operators per l'applicazione del Codice di Condotta dell'Industria Turistica.

05.07.2007 A recent study in Dhaka, Bangladesh says immunisation can prevent life-threatening pneumonia and meningitis cases caused by Hib. The researchers recommend the Hib vaccine for Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
