Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf nousi tammikuussa ensimmäisenä naisena afrikkalaisen valtion presidentiksi. Köyhän Liberian saaminen raiteilleen vaatii presidentin mukaan panostusta koulutukseen ja työhön. Studenti Sveučilišta u Zagrebu pokrenuli su projekt EVO (Etika u visokom obrazovanju). Cilj projakta je borba i suzbijanje korupcije i svakog drugog oblika nepravde koji pogađa pojedinca, organizacije i institucije u Hrvatskoj. Projekt okuplja studente, profesore, ali i sve druge koji žele pomoći u ostvarenju pravednijeg, kvalitetnijeg i etičnijeg društva. Iako primarno usmjeren na visoko obrazovanje, projekt neće zaobilaziti aktualnu problematiku u širim društvenim okvirima.

The children living in slum areas, who do not go to school, will now be educated under a special government scheme. Children from six to 14 years of age will be imparted free education at Alternative and Innovative Education Centres (AIEC), which will be opened in slum areas under the Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan, a Centre-sponsored scheme.

770 opettajaksi opiskelevaa aloitti lukukautensa avustusjärjestö UFF:n tukemissa opistoissa Mosambikissa ja Malawissa. Seitsemän kahdeksasta järjestön tukemasta opistosta sijaitsee Mosambikissa. Maan opetusministeriö on asettanut tavoitteeksi peruskoulun tarjoamisen kaikille lapsille.

The Union Cabinet has cleared the bill to reserve 27 per cent seats for other backward classes in all institutions of higher and technical education managed or aided by the central government. The bill will be introduced in the monsoon session of Parliament, which ends on Friday.
