21.02.2008 "Treviso non è razzista, ma una città civile": per dimostrarlo i cittadini trevigiani hanno lanciato l'appello online 'Treviso città aperta' "per dare all'Italia e a quanti ci guardano nel mondo, un'immagine meno chiusa e claustrofobica". "L’immagine di Treviso è profondamente cambiata negli ultimi anni: la città ospitale e gentile del passato ora appare rancorosa e chiusa. La responsabilità di questo mutamento di percezione è innanzitutto del ceto politico locale che ha preso in ostaggio il 'marchio' trevigiano" - scrivono i promotori dell'appello che vogliono evidenziare come "larga parte di questa società non discrimina le persone in base alla religione, alla sessualità, al colore della pelle". Intanto la Commissione europea ribadisce che non ci possono essere discriminazioni contro i cittadini stranieri a Verona, Romano d’Ezzelino (Vicenza) e Treviso.
